RAVEN Finish Mixing New Songs
June 23, 2006Long-running British metallers RAVEN have just completed mixing four new songs — "Against The Grain", "Running Around In Circles", "Breaking You Down" and "Necessary Evil" — at Assembly Line Studios with Kevin 131 (PROJECT: FAILING FLESH, DECEASED, DYSRYTHMIA, GARDEN OF SHADOWS) engineering and mixing. Kevin has issued the following statement about the project:
"We just finished mixing the four tunes that were tracked over the last few days. We were all excited after tracking that the tunes came out so well. Since this was our first time working together, these were great test sessions to see how everyone works and to see if the next record would be cut together. We were moving fast, but John [Gallagher, RAVEN bassist/vocalist], Mark [Gallagher, guitarist], and Joe [Hasselvander, drums] are all pros and have no problems doing things quickly and in few takes. I was super surprised at how fast John cuts his insane vocals. One takes, perfectly in tune, no pitch correction needed… and it sound likes RAVEN. When he does his high pitched vocals he moves about 6 or 7 feet away from the mike. I am sitting there thinking there is no way this is gonna sound like it is in your face. Somehow, it does and works perfect. Unreal.
"I mixed the tunes, and then e-mailed everyone the tracks. What a crazy world this is now. They all listened, then John and I made a quick round of adjustments.
"As previously stated, Bill Wolf mastered the songs, and everyone, including myself, is quite happy with the results. John and I spoke before they left and everyone is excited.
"The guys from RAVEN are off to the festival now this weekend, with songs in hand. From what John was telling me, these are their first recordings in 6 years. The time off was a great thing for them in my opinion, because this is great energy, great vibe and plain killer songs. After the guys sort some label stuff, a new record will follow.
"All hail the new RAVEN tunes."
RAVEN's last studio album, "One for All", was released in 1999 via Massacre Records.
